"'Cause you know it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!"

New Kids to reunite for one-time show

By Boston.com Staff, 4/1/2004

Its been more than a decade since theyve been together, but it seems the boy band from Beantown is still hanging tough.

In a special, one-time-only show at City Hall Plaza, the New Kids on the Block will reunite for a free performance on June 14th at 4 p.m.

Lets just say, the kids are back, said concert promoter Bill Styles of Resurrection Records. Will this be the only show? Well see how it goes. The Backstreet Boys have fizzled, and N Sync has split, so we figured this was a perfect time to get the band back together.

A money-making machine in the late 1980s and early 90s, the New Kids were the forefathers of the boy band movement. The New Kids toured across the world in front of millions of screaming teens, and their boyish faces helped sell everything from pencil sharpeners to wet-naps en route to breaking records as one of the most lucrative bands in the music business.

Why Flag Day, you ask, said Styles, referring to the concert date at City Hall Plaza. Well be selling American flags with a New Kids insignia that reads, In Joey We Trust. That should be a big hit with the ladies.

Original Kids Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, and Jon Knight were unavailable for comment about the upcoming gig. But Styles guaranteed that the New Kids are hard at work perfecting a high-energy mix of old hits for the die-hard fans, plus plan some new tunes and dance moves to appeal to a younger audience.

Were excited for this, added Styles. The timing is perfect. Donnies acting career is in the tank. And who doesnt love the New Kids on the Block?

Oh, and if you made it this far April Fools Day from your friends at Boston.com.
