Do you think it has to do with the sphere they find themselves in? I think you and I have shared enough about our various situations that you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I know what you are saying and in my situation I think it's just where he's at and has nothing to do with the fact that he actually "believes" these things. One of them being that he really just doesn't have time to sit down and read a paper, watch news other than local and therefore all the info is from one source. Other people who are an influence on him. Anyway, when we talk, or fight I should say, it's always political.

Not in this case. I can see how in your case it might be, especially given where your guy is from originally, I think he's just strayed from the flock. Charley though has always been a very active member of the liberal left. He's probably better informed about American politics than I am, it's just that he has this hippy sentimentality that we should all take care of each other. I don't have a problem with taking care of some people who I feel deserve it, but I do have a problem with being extorted so that my lazy ass cousin can sit on her ass and make babies all day. I tell him that he can blow all the hot air he wants but until he's paying taxes in America he doesn't really get an opinion with me.

Straying from the flock is an understatement. More like completely off the reservation and on another planet. The funny thing about it is all I have to say is "Have you read or seen anything about this?" and the answer is always "No." So, you're just forming an opinion without any facts except what someone tells you their opinion about it is.

I'm used to being the opposite of almost everyone in some ways, and I guess you can understand that.

To quote Ronald Reagan (something I feel I can do as a left-leaning Libertarian): "A person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a valued friend and ally, not a 20 percent traitor." I see that as meaning more than politics.

That's a good way of looking at it Lilo. I'm going to remember that quote.
