I agree. I've read most of his books bcs I felt like I SHOULD, you know? Everyone seems to rave about his writing - I just end up feeling like I'm missing something. What's the big f***ing deal? Bottom line, he's good, not great, and certainly not worth all the raves. Glad to see I'm not the only one....

Does it make me small minded that I really enjoy his books? Me Talk Pretty One Day was the first I read and I ended up getting all of them. I guess it does.

No, Elizabeth, because it's not that he's a bad writer, he's a good little writer, he's just not worth all the praise heaped on him. Crate's a better writer than Sedaris, I'd rather spend a day reading what happened to Crate on the way home from work than the carefully honed and highly acclaimed works of Sedaris. He was funny, kinda, if there hadn't been the huge build up to how great he was I probably wouldn't have been so lukewarm about him.

Thanks for mentioning my book, "Enslaved By Ducks." I'm glad you're enjoying it, and I wanted to let you know that Howard the Dove is still going strong at age 14. Very nice blog! Take care.
